Olimpia by Manet

My class had analyzed two paintings one of which i chose to describe. This painting caught my attention because i felt like it had a lot to do with racism. Although the artist of this painting was not trying to necessarily promote racism this is what i got from this painting. My perspective on this was that the white naked woman was making the black lady cater to her. 

I feel like the woman was relaxing commanding the black lady to bring her luxuries such as food and flowers. The black woman was bringing the white lady things by force is what i feel which is why i feel like this picture represent slavery and racism. Black people being treated bad by white people is how they were treated in the 1800's. this picture also looks like it was taken a very long time ago.
